Lola And The Boy Next Door

Lola and the Boy Next Door
Here's the thing. I like Stephanie Perkin's books. I think she can write wonderfully realistic romances that are enjoyable to read. But, I'm not one of those people that swears by them. I thought that Anna was great, mostly for it's setting. And St.Clair was hot. Not my type, but hot. I liked that book, I gave it four stars. Lola, was good, but didn't work as well for me as it's prequel did.

The Good:

  • Perkins s'till has that talent for writing un-cliche, cute romance with a few giggles.
  • Cricket was cute and totally the type of boy I would go for in my own life. His love for Lola made my heart hurt.
  • GAY DADS.
  • Not just gay dads, but actual, supportive parents in a YA novel. Who actually care about their daughter! WOW!
  • The plotline with Lola's birth mother was done well.
  • It was nice to see Anna and St.Clair again.
  • Every character felt real. There were no characters just shoved in there for filler.
The Bad:

  • Lola annoyed the hell out of me. I WANTED TO PUNCH HER IN THE FACE.
  • IT WASN'T AS GOOD AS ANNA. WAHHHHHHH.
Yes. So as you can see, the good's outweighed the bad. And I maybe shouldn't have compared it to Anna so much. It gets a THUMBS UP from me. If you enjoyed Perkins first novel, you'll like this one. Just don't expect it to blow your mind.
